Johnny Depp wins against Amber Heard

Johnny Depp has been in the midst of a defamation trial with his ex-wife who is named Amber Heard. Amber Heard is an actress. She is in the movie named, “Aquaman,” which has a sequel due out in the year 2023. She plays the girl named, “Mera,” in the Aquaman franchise.

Johnny Depp sued Amber Heard and argued that Amber Heard defamed him in a Op-Ed interview that was out in 2018. In that interview, Amber stated that Johnny hit Amber and also sexually assaulted her.

Johnny Depp was given 15 million dollars in damages. Amber is forced to give Johnny Depp 10.5 million dollars as a result of his win. However, Amber will receive 2 million dollars in damages for winning one of three defamation counts.

This is what Amber had to say:

“The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I am heartbroken that the mountain of evidence that I spoke on was still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence and sway of my ex-husband named Johnny Depp.”

She continued to say:

“I am even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback. It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke-up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously.

Finally, she concluded:

“I am sad that I lost this case. But I am sadder still that I seem to have lost a right I thought I had as an American — to speak freely and openly.”

The Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation trial was decided upon by a jury of 7 people. The court case took place in Fairfax, Virginia.
